UROMI MARKS 20 YEARS OF RULER'S REIGN | OSEHOBO





Uromi, the headquarters of Esan Northeast local Government in Edo State which is popular for being the home of the many Eminent Nigerians who bear the name “Anthony” is in festive mood as its traditional ruler HRH Zaiki Edenojie II clocks twenty years on the throne.


The ‘Anthony’ list includes Anthony Cardinal Okojie, the Archbishop of the Lagos Metropolitan See, the Late Chief Anthony Enahoro, Adolor of Uromi who is famous for moving the fisrt motion for Nigeria’s Independence in 1956 and Chief Anthony Anenih, the Iyasele of Esanland and former Chairman of the Board of trustees of the ruling PDP.


HRH Edenojie II who ascended the throne of his ancestors on 19th November 1991 was aged 18 and is credited with bringing to bear on the town a reign of peaceful co-existence among all his subjects irrespective of their sex, creed and political affiliations.


Iwelomen said during HRH Edenojie II reign five Uromi citizens were appointed Ministers in the national cabinet including AVM Anthony Okpere, who served as Minister for Aviation, Dr Joseph Itotoh, who served as Minister for Education, Chief Tony Anenih, who served as Minister for Works and Mr. Mike Onolememen, who served first as Minister For Defence and now is Minister For Works.


According to Odia Peter Iwelomen Uromi town is expected to host all its sons and daughters to the week long activity of dance, drama and cultural extravaganza designed to show case the rich heritage of Uromi kingdom.


He said Uromi people are happy to celebrate their king on this occasion because ascending the throne at an early age he has been able to bring wisdom to bear on the ancient throne and restored glory to royalty.


He added that during his reign HRH Edenojie II witnessed the making of Uromi the headquarters of the new Esan NE LG council created in his time. HRH Edenojie II also undertook a massive reconstruction of the ancient huts and walls that make up the Onojie’s Palace at Uromi.


HRH Edenojie II was born on October 10 1973 and attended St Anthony’s Primary School and later Hussey College, Warri before proceeding to the University of Benin for a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology.


A successful businessman, HRH Edenojie II today sits atop 10 registered business concerns with which he has put Uromi on the map of emerging towns with rich economic potentials
